Organize files and pages

Use folders to arrange files on your computer, Favorites to keep important entries close at hand, and page hierarchy to connect related Markdown notes.

Use folders to arrange files on your computer, Favorites to keep important entries close at hand, and page hierarchy to connect related Markdown notes.

Create folders

  1. Select Create file or folder in the file panel.
  2. Choose the parent location in Create location.
  3. Select Folder.
  4. Omeruta creates New Folder and selects its name in the file panel. Type the name you want, then press Enter.

You can also right-click an existing folder and select New File or New Folder. Items created this way are placed inside that folder.

Manage files and folders

Right-click a local file or folder to open its action menu.

  • Select Rename, or press F2 on the selected entry, to change its name.
  • Select Duplicate to create a copy in the same folder.
  • Select Move to... and choose a destination folder, or drag the entry onto a different folder.
  • Select Customize folder… to choose a folder icon and color for this device.
  • Select Copy Path to copy the entry's full location.
  • Before deleting a folder, note that the action also deletes everything inside it. Select Delete, then confirm.

Top-level workspace entries also have Show in tab. Use it to place an entry in Notes, Code, or Design, or choose Automatic to use Omeruta's file-type classification. This changes where the entry appears in the sidebar; it does not move the entry on your computer.

Add Favorites and change sidebar order

Select Add to Favorites from a file or folder menu. The Favorites section appears above the built-in and local entries in the file panel. Removing an entry from Favorites removes only the shortcut; it does not delete the original file or folder.

For a top-level Notes entry, use Move earlier or Move later to change its position. After a custom order exists, Reset alphabetical order removes that order.

Create a parent and sub-page relationship

Page hierarchy groups Markdown notes without moving their files into a different folder.

  1. Open the Markdown note that should become the sub-page.
  2. Expand Properties below the page title.
  3. Find Parent, then select Set parent page....
  4. Search for and select the parent note.
  5. Save the sub-page.

You can also drag one Markdown note onto another in the file panel. This sets the target note as its parent instead of moving the file on disk.

A sub-page shows its ancestor trail above the page title. A parent with one or more direct children shows a Sub-pages control; select it to open one of those child pages.

To remove a parent relationship, expand Properties, point to the current parent, and select Remove parent.
