The AI Assistant can answer questions, explore workspace material, make plans, and prepare edits for review. Its available models and actions depend on the provider configured in Settings → AI.
Before you start
Open a workspace and configure one text provider:
- OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini requires the corresponding API key.
- Local AI requires an app-managed model to be downloaded and started.
- Ollama requires a reachable Ollama service and an installed model.
Hosted providers receive the prompt and the workspace material included with that request. Local AI and a local Ollama service process model requests on the computer. Check the selected provider before including private information.
Open the Assistant and choose a mode
Select Omeruta AI in the vertical sidebar, or press Command-Shift-I on macOS or Ctrl-Shift-I on Windows.
Choose the mode that matches the task:
- Ask gives read-only answers and exploration.
- Plan prepares a read-only plan.
- Agent can complete workspace and content tasks, subject to the approvals shown for the requested actions.
- Review inspects pending work and its evidence.
Use the model selector to change the provider or model before sending a turn. The selector is disabled while a response is running.
Ask about workspace files
Type @ in the Assistant composer and choose a workspace file or an available shared source. The selected reference appears as an @name chip and can be removed before sending.
Referenced open files use their current editor content, including unsaved changes. A file that is not open is read from the active workspace. If the Assistant cannot read a reference or you no longer have access to a shared source, it leaves that source out and reports the problem.
Be specific about the desired result. For example:
Summarize @Project brief and list the decisions that still need an owner.
Use web research
Turn on Web when the request needs current internet information. The Assistant may ask before searching when Settings → AI is configured to require confirmation for each search. Review the sources displayed with a research result before relying on the answer.
Web research is separate from workspace search. Turning it off keeps the turn from starting a web search unless another visible permission flow says otherwise.
Review proposed edits
When Agent prepares file edits, the Assistant displays a review card instead of silently replacing the file.
- Read the summary and inspect each proposed change.
- Select Accept for an individual change or Apply all for the reviewed batch.
- Select Reject or Reject all for changes you do not want.
- Save the affected file after confirming the editor contains the intended result.
Some actions require an additional permission prompt. Read the action and its target before approving it. Rejecting a permission prevents that action from running.
Manage conversations
Select the current chat title or Chat history to see conversations saved for the active workspace. Open an earlier chat to continue it. Hover a history row to rename or delete it. Select New chat to save the current conversation and start a fresh one.
Conversation history is workspace-specific. Switching workspaces changes the history list and the files that can be referenced.
